Following the pervasive media coverage of Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles Police Department
officer accused of killing four people in revenge for what he describes in his
"Manifesto" as corruption and racism in the department, there has
been renewed interest in the relationship between racial discrimination,
mental health, and the criminal justice system. We will host a conversation
featuring Dr. Travis Gosa, who covered Chris Dorner for Ebony Magazine, and Dr.
Paul Harris, author of Black Rage Confronts the Law, who pioneered the
black rage defense. We will discuss the combined forces of racial
inequality and mental health in crime as well as the potential for criminal
defense to be informed by the these contexts.
