EXPOSING TORTURE IN AN AGE OF GOVERNMENT SECRECY: "Two FOIA requests, 130,000 pages, one electronic database."
Jaffer will speak about his work unearthing the United States' secret torture program through the Freedom of Information Act. Through the 'Torture FOIA' litigation, Jaffer and his colleagues have made public OLC memos by John Yoo and Jay Bybee that provided the legal basis for the torture program, the CIA Inspector General report detailing the program, reports describing deaths of detainees in U.S. custody, and countless other documents that were previously withheld from the public.
